MINERS NEGOTIATING. Press Association. ■WESTPORT, December 22. Tho miners' delegates arc negotiating to-day with a view to resuming work. It is understood they aro endeavouring to make a condition the reinstatement of the old watersiders, but tho Union Company is determined to give preference of employment to members of the new union. Tho inward cargo trade was resumed in earnest to-day with the arrival of the Kaitoa and Kennedy from Nelson. Tlfo' Hinemoo. and Tutanokai both took outward cargoes 'of coal for the Railway Department on Friday and Saturday. MINERS IN CONFERENCE. Press Association. WESTPORT, December 22. A conference of mining delogates sat at Westport to-day, and again this evening, to consider the strike so far us the miners aro concerned, but it is understood that ilo decision has been arrived at, and that tho conference resumes to-morrow. Meantime, it is reported a movement is on foot at tho mines with a view to an early resumption of work.
