A Wellington string band of ten performers has been engaged to supply music at the Tauherenikau races. The Featherston County Council has accepted the tender of Mr Compton, of Masterton. at L 784 12s. for the construction of the Fernsido-Longwood water-race.

STessrs R. Pook, J. Gray and J, H. Tatham, of Mastcrton, have been elected members of tho Wairarapa Automobile Association.

Mr A. C. Gow, who has been appointed statiomnaster at Ngahauranga, was presented by the staff at the Foatherston railway station on Friday afternoon with a fountain pen and set of pipes. The Kaitawa Cheese Company paid out £594 to suppliers on Saturday for milk supplied during November, this being at the rate of per pound of butter-fat. The Nircaha Company paid out £IBB2, being at the rate of 'Jd per pound of butter-fat. The quantity of cheese manufactured daily by the factories in the Pahiatua district is 4J tons, valued at £285, while the quantity of butter is 4J- tons, valued at £5lB. The value of byproducts from butter is £IOB, and from cheese £2B. This makes the value of butter and cheese manufactured daily in the Pahiatua district £934.

Riflemen G. Hyde, A. J. Cameron, P. Bolton, H. 13. Jones, M. Minton and A. V. Swanson will represent the Opaki Rifle Club at the exhibition rifle meeting at Auckland next month. The fortnigntly competition of the Opaki Rifle Club was won by Rifleman lad .!o (Thursday squad) 96. and Rifleman Swanson (Saturday squad) 92. The Wairarapa Polo Club opened tin season on Saturday afternoon, when an enjoyable game was played between the following teams—A team: R. N Barton, R. Riddiford, Erl Williams, and L. Hughes; B team: C. Bennett, D. Buchanan, J. K. Strong and V. Riddiford. Play was of an interesting nature throughout, and some good form was shown by individual mem hers. The A team won by two goals to nil. the scorers being R. Barton and R. Riddiford. Mr P. Harrison controlled the game in an efficient manner. The game of polo promises to become popular in Wairarapa, and it is probable other clubs will be formed. The Rev. Father Harnett and Mr' C. D. King, of Masterton, have been elected members of the Wairarapa Caledonian Society. Messrs M. Lavery and B. R. Rayner have been appointed delegates to represent the Wairarapa centre of the New Zealand Cycling and Athletic Union at the annual conference to be held at Auckland on January loth, and IGth.
