KINDERGARTEN TEACHERS
RECOGNITION BY THE STATE Press Association.
DUNEDIN, December 22
Addressing a gathering at the opening of tho model kindergarten at South Dunedin this afternoon the Hon. James Allen, Minister for Education, mentioned that representatives of the Kindergarten Associations had recently met in Wellington to consider, among other things, tho question of training kindergarten teachers on a systematic plan. A certain line of action had been agreed upon, and within the last week or so they had approached him, as Minister for Education, with suggestions. On© of the matters they had agreed upon was that their teachers should be more definitely recognised by tho State, and they had asked tho Government to assist them by examining these teachers in such a way that there would be a definite standard sot which in the one case would be equal to the standard set for kindergarten teachers at Home, and in tho other case would be a standard for New Zealand. He had referred the matter to the department for 1 a report as to whether it was possible for tho State to undertake tho examinations. He believed the department would bo able to undertake tho work, and he looked forward to tho time when many of these teachers, with tho Government mark upon them, would drift into the public schools.
