arrangements for next FETE. A meeting of the Citizens’ Carnival 1 Committee was held last evening, the Mayor (Mr J. P. Cuke; presiding. Mr G. S. Hill wrote tendering his resignation as secretary of the sports committee on account of pressure of the work. The matter was referred to the committee concerned. Questions connected with the holding of the next carnival, on March 4th, sth, Ctli, and 7th, were then dealt with. v , , The secretary (Mr 11. Amos) reported that he had suggested the setting apart of one day of the carnival for a general sports meeting for schools in the 'VS ellington district, and had put such a scheme before local headmasters, who had promised to do their best to maka a success of it. The matter, however, would have to be deferred by them until February next on account of the holidays. It was mentioned by Mr Marriott that Mr Flex-otto, who is in charge of the American athletic team, and whe. is the director of public school athletics in California, would be pleased to give advice on the matter. Mr A. Paape suggested the addition of an axemen’s fete to the carnival. It was left to Mr Marriott to bring tho headmasters together to discuss the question of holding a children’s day. Tho arranging of an art union was left in the hands of Messrs Paape and Wilson. The next meeting will he held on January 12th. 1914. at 8 p.m. Mr Paape paid a tribute to the work, of the Mayor during the past year, and wished Mr and Mrs Luke " A Mernr, Christmas and a Happy New I ear. 1 His Worship suitably responded.
