Tb© cashier of tho Paris office ol the “New York Herald” disappeared with £3OOO belonging to the paper. He left a letter explaining that he at first took £4OOO to finance a scheme of selling pearls in America. His partner abandoned tho business, and had gone off with tho money. He had, therefore, taken £IOOO more, hoping with their help to make tho enterprise succeed.
