REMARKABLE STORY OF GIRL’S EPISODES. Press Associaton. HAMILTON, December 19. A charge of theft, preferred against a married woman, Annie Fcarnley, in tho Hamilton Police Court to-day, brought to light some remarkable facts. Tho woman, who is only nineteen years of age, ran away from her homo in Taihape shortly after entering. bet 'teens, and to avoid arrest and a return to an allegedly tyrannical stepparent, disguised herself as a boy and went about the country earning a living at masculine occupations. One day she met Feamley, whom she had known previously, and who is considerably her senior, and tho two threw in their lots together and went about as mates, taking up drainage and other work together. They held fencing, drainage, and well-sinking contracts around Hamilton two years ago, their employers describing both as excellent workers. At Hastings about twelve months ago, the woman was discharged for vagrancy, and on Fcarnley promising to marry her. the couple returned to Hamilton a few months ago, when the woman took up tho occupation of domestic at the house from which sho was now charged with theft. She was convicted and ordered to come np for sentence when called upon. The husband. on n charge of receiving stolen goods, was acquitted.
