South Australia opened the Sheffield Shield competitions against New South Wales. The weather was fine and the wicket good. South Australia, in the first innings, scored 281—Maync 28, Crawford 91, Steele 28, Pellew 57. Bowling Analysis.—Massie, three wickets for 80; Kelleway, three for 51; Folkard, three for 63: Mailey, one for 60. New South Wales lost two wickets for 149—Kelleway 21, Macartney (not out) 104, Trumper (not out) 19. NEW ZEALANDERS' TOUR. (Received December 19, 10.30 p.m.) BRISBANE. December 19. As it is raining the cricket match between the New Zealanders and Queensland has been postponed till to-morrow. INTER-SCHOOL MATCHES. Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH. December 19. The match Boys’ High School v. Auckland Grammar School, for the Heathcote Williams Shield, was concluded today, High School retaining the trophy by a narrow margin after an exciting finish. Smeeton (Auckland captain) made a century. BoyS' High School's first innings realised 113 and the second innings 233, Auckland Grammar School's first innings 95 and second innings 233 (Smeeton 110). Wanganui College defeated Christ’s College easily. The visitors’ second ■ innings closed for 211, and College mode 136 in their second attempt. Scores: —Wanganui College 92 and 211, Christ’s College 62 and 136.
