Excellent entries have been received for the Now Zealand championship meeting, to be held at Auckland on December 36th, 27th, and 29th, and include all the leading New Zealand players, excepting C. C. Cox, J. Oi Peacock (ex-champions), and L. b. Jennings.’ The only thing to bo regretted is the inability of S. N.. Doust and H. A. Parker (N.S.W.) to make the journey across the Tasman. At one stage both wero likely start, era. i;, R. N. K. Swanston, the present champion, will defend his title in the men’s singles, in which his most dan, ferous opponents will he F. M, B. isher, G. Ollivier, C. J. Dickie, A. 6. Wallace, and William Goss. Misses A. Gray (champion; and Eva Baird are the only two leading players of note to contest tho ladies’ singles, and the absence of such sterling players as Misses Jiartgill, Nunneley, Travers, and Wellwood is deplorable.! Had Peacock and Cox been able to play, there would have been some rat-' tling doubles contests, had the pairing! been: Fisher and Peacock, SwanstoA and Cox, Dickie and Wallace, Ollivier and Goss (or Jennings). Misses Gray and Baird must win: the ladies’ doubles, and the same re-1 mark applies to Swanston and Miss Gray in the combined, although the! Wellingtonian is not partial to the! mixed game. Fisher’s absence from j this event detracts considerably from its possibilities The drawings for the opening rounds’ of the singles are; — MEN’S. G. Ollivier v. D. K. Duthie. A. G. Wallace v. H. W. Snelhug. F. S. Wilding v. E. B. Andrao. R. N. K. Swanston v. W. A. Brown, H. Henderson v. C. R. Brown. Dr A. S. Addison v. R. A. Prater. J. E. Marshall v. H. Robson. P. M. B. Fisher v. L. T. Pickmore. W. Pearse v. M. L. Lampe. Dr A. B. McCutcheon v. G. C. Lyttelton. Dr H. Keith v. A. S. C. Brown. C. J. Dickie v. H. A. E. Milnes. Dr W. N. Abbott v. E. L. Knelling. F. W. Martin v. W. Andreal. * E. Tonka v. J. Peat. Wm. Goss (bye). Undoubtedly the three leading play-| ers, Swanston, Fisher and Ollivier are all on the same side of the draw along with A. G. Wallace. The bottom halt will be fought out between Dickie, Goss, and Pearse. LADIES’. First Round. Mrs Scott-Watson v. Miss J. Moore, 1 Miss Eva Gumming v. Miss 1)J Crane. Miss M. Cooper v. Miss G. Gorrie.
