Mrs P. Myers and her children leave to-morrow for Picton, where they will spend'the holidays. Mr and Mrs Mervyn Gorringe (Rangitikei) are here for a few days. Mrs Lee Lord, mother of Mrs Hiley, wife of the general manager of New i Zealand railways, is at present a guest at the Cecil. Miss Heron, of Palmerston North, is in town. She is a guest at the Grand Hotel. Mrs and Miss Coull, who have been spending some months in Rotorua for the benefit of their health, arrived back in town by the Alain Trunk express on Wednesday morning. The matron of the hospital desires to acknowledge the following gifts:— Flowers, Airs Tonks, Messrs R. T. J. Williams (Napier); illustrated papers, Mrs C. Smith, Miss Skerrett, Messrs Bailie and R. T. Turnbull; scented soap, books, cards and doll, pupils of Normal School (per Miss Sinclair). Mesdames Rhodes and Clark were passengers to the north by the Main Trunk express yesterday morning. Mrs Gicson went north by the Main Trunk express on Wednesday evening. Mr and Mrs C. Tringham and their children will be at Picton during the Christmas holidays. Mrs Rutter has taken a house at Muritai for the summer holidays. Mrs Pauling leaves to-day for Kimbolton, where she will stay until the New Year. Miss Horton and Miss Beatrice Horton aro staying at Balmoral. Mrs Armstrong, who has been staying at Balmoral, returns to Masterton on Monday morning. Miss Strachan arrives to-night from New Plymouth. Captain and Airs Estcourt, who have been visiting Christchurch, have ,returned. At St. Alatthew’s Church, Masterton, on Wednesday afternoon, Mr E. Loader, of Taueru, was married to Miss Violet May Duffy, daughter of Mrs Duffy, of Albert street. Miss JDuffy was bridesmaid, and Air A. Loader best man. At Mjxrtinborough on Wednesday, Miss Smith, of Tawaha, was married to Mr T. Jacobsen, of Dannovirke, and formerly of Alartinborough. Aliss Al. E. Richmond was invited to present the prizes to the students at Nelson College, on Tuesday last. In introducing her. Air Fell, chairman of the Board of Governors, remarked that Aliss Richmond was the daughter of one of the greatest men New Zealand has produced, and was herself the leading woman on educational matters in New Zealand, and was the founder here of the kindergarten system of education. Miss Richmond was very heartily received when she addressed the students, her remarks being excellent, stimulating, and interesting. Some changes are occurring on the staff of the Nelson Girls’ College, Aliss Chisholm, who has been in charge of the preparatory school and given great satisfaction for ten years, is being succeeded by Aliss Elsie AfacKenzie, who was a student at Victoria College for three years, and also attended the Wellington Training College. Miss Baxter has joined the staff of the Christchurch Girls’ High School, and Miss Isaac, AI. A., was appointed in her place, Air Robert Leo contemplates a trip to England next year, and will be accompanied by Alias Cora Lee. Aliss Alargory Nicholls, daughter of Air H. E. Nicholls, secretary to the Wellington Harbour Board, leaves early in January for an extended tour of Europe. Aliss Nicholls will study in Germany tho method of teaching adopted in that country. Alisses Roberts, Alurray, and Alinogue arrived by tho second Alain Trunk express yesterday. Airs Alaidlow was a passenger to \ Auckland by the Alain Trunk express yesterday morning. Airs C. D. Wilson and Aliss L. B. Greig, of Napier, are in town. They are staying at the Empire.
