Tho Charity Cup semi-finals were played in good weather on Saturday afternoon, with tho result that Y.M.O.A. and Hospital are left to fight out tho final next Saturday. On thb Basin Reserve tho representatives of the sixth division easily accounted for South Wellington, tho winners of the sixth division championship. V.M.C.A*. v. ST. JOHN’S. These two teams met on Kelburno Park, and after a lairly even tussle tho Young Men came out somewhat lucky winners by 2 goals to nil. St, John’s had tho misfortune to lose Parsons at tho end of the first spell, ho receiving an injury which necessitated leaving the field. Y.M.C.A. were tho first to got moving, but the St. John’s hacks wore ready for them and removed play to half-way. The St. John’s forwards, however, were slower than their opponents, who beat them for tho ball and carried it down to within shooting distance, but Walls, in goal for Saints, saved. With twenty minutes’ play gone, Wilson sent in a good centre, and Phillips being handy made no mistake. Y;M.C.A. 1, St. John’s nil. This score had the effect of rallying St. John’s, whose foywards swept down field, but their efforts were spoilt by erratic shooting. Play for a while settled down in neutral territory. Then Y.M.C.A. made a sortie into St. John’s quarters, and Baker sent in a hard shot, which Walls, in endeavouring to save, landed against the upright, ami the score was; Y.M.C.A. 2; St. John’s nil. It remained at this till half-time. The commencement of tho second half again saw Y.M.C.A. aggressive, but St. John’s soon repulsed them, and tho Young Men were hard put to keep tho yellows from scoring, Hollis in goal saving some good shots. Y.M.C.A. removed play to half-way, but the relief was only temporary, as the Saints wore soon back in the stripes’ quarters, blit poor shooting spoilt tho chances. Y.M.C.A. now took a turn at attack, but tho. ball went behind. Bruce broke away for St. John’s, and after outpacing most of the Y.M.C.A. team spout a great chance hy a had shot. From this on to tho end of the game, the Sa.nts did most of tho attacking, hut wore unable to score, the final result being Y.M.C.A. 2, St. John’s nil. Mr R. S. Lithgow refereed. MENTAL HOSPITAL v. SWIFTS. A disappointing garhe between Mental Hospital and Swifts, played on the Basin Reserve, resulted in a win for the former by two goals to nil. In tho early stages the game gave promise of being a willing and interesting “go.” The; pace at the start was very fast, both teams doing their share, but as. the game progressed it slackened considerably, and play at times was of a straggling nature. Give and”take play characterised the first spell. Neither'team could claim tho advantage, and at half-time no score was registered. To Swifts’ supporters prospects seemed rosy for a win, but their hopes were vain. Early in the second spell it was , apparent that Swifts were a beaten team. Their forwards wero completely disorganised, and all efforts on the part of tho back and half-hack division to urge them on were futile. They could not get go lag, and generally when the leather camo their way it was missed, or taken from them by an opponent. Hospital, on the other hand, wero seen to better advantage against the wind. Their combination improved, and they used more judgment when kicking at goal. Hospital kicked off, and ■Swifts moved up-fleld. Hero they met .with a strong defence, which they tried very hard to penetrate. Tho resulting tussle provided some exciting play, hnt no score was registered.. Hospital retaliated with a rush on Swifts’ goal, and a shot from short range, narrowly missed. Siviffs again advanced, but were driven back. Hospital had another. shot at goal, but the keeper punched it out, and again Swifts went away. The hall went out about midfield, ahd Hospital returned, to Swifts’ end. A corner was conceded, hut the kick went behind. For the greater part of the spell play travelled up and down field, tho only advantage gained being corner kicks, and these mostly in favour of Hospital. When, close on time, the ball was set moving among Swifts’ backs, and an advance was made on' Hospital territory. When well up field, Monat (outside right) received a pass which he returned to centre. Vessey put all his energy into the kick, but Cobb was fully alert, and made a magnificent save. For this ho was cheered by the spectators. Half-time came without score. Hospital brightened considerably on resuming, aud shortly after tho commencement of,, the spell moved to Swifts’ end. A corner was conceded, but Elliott kicked behind. ■ Again Hospital came, and this time with sue-, cess. Roots passed to Skinner, who made a good run.. When within short range he put in a hot shot, the ball landing in the left-hand corner of tho net. Hospital 1, Swifts 0. Hospital now found themselves on the defensive, but Crow relieved, and they had another shot, which missed. When tjhe ball was again set in motion, Swifts had a shot which Skinner intercepted. A scramble resulted, aud another shot put the sphere over tho bar. Hospital again attacked, but off-side play lost them an easy goal. From a throw-in, Heath centred, the ball going to Hughes. When about to shoot, ho was declared to bo offside. Tho second and final goal came shortly after. From a pass from Skinner, Hughes scored with a good shot. Hospital 2, Swifts 1. Again Hospital tried, hut tho shot by Roots waa saved on the post. Time sounded without further score. Mr Newbold was referee. REPRESENTATIVE GAME. WELLINGTON 4tb DIVISION V, MANAWATU 4th DIVISION.

Flaws sent to Thomas, who swung out to the left, where Reid whipped m and scored with a _ nice shot. I—o.1 —0. Manawatu were in no way discouraged, and Anderson and Sutton made good efforts to score, the

latter missing a splendid chance aftei a good run. Casey and Henderson wero not up to form at back, but Flaws cleared nicely and worked through to Webb, who sent on quickly to Thomas. Tho Brooklynite was through in a second and found tuo Bst. 2—o. . In tho early stages of the second spell Manawatu played up well, and good work was done by Anderson l-L Sutton, and D. Cleeno, but a lack °* cohesion and shooting ability on the part of the forwards spoilt good scoring opportunities. At length Anderson, nno was playing well on tho right wing, broke away nicely and beating Casey, who stood appealing for off-side, finished up n good run by scoring a very nice goal. 2—l. Manawatu stocks wero up, and one or two niiskicks by tho visitors’ backs nearly allowed the scores to get level. Reid, howoyei, got a chance on the left for W ollington, and working nicely to the goal lino ho swung in a fine centre, which Keirby turned to good account. 3- 1. From this on, tho result was never m doubt. Bowdon and Thomas were especially clover and tricky on the right wing, and received good support from tho other forwards, who _wero combining splendidly, and irom i at centre-half. Bowden added the fourth goal with a clever shot, and before time was called goals were added by Thomas, Reid, and Bowden, making tho final score 7 to 1. Mr B. Martin refereed. Anderson (2) Sutton, D.
