INDRABARAH REAPPEARS

LIKE A NEW VESSEL. Spick and span, the Tyser liner Indrabarah made her reappearance at Wellington yesterday after being temporarily repaired at. Port CfiaJmers. Tue temporary repairs were carried out by Messrs Stevenson and Cook. The work included the removal of the two manganese bronze one-piece propellers which were broken and the substitution of the vessel's spare oast iron propellers. Tne spare railshaft was fitted, and another eix-tou tail shaft was forged and substituted for the second damaged tail shaft. The biggest lob, which is the only permanent work, was the repairing of the rudder. Eleven feet of the lower end of the rudder was carried away, and the two lower gudgeons on the stern frame were missing. About 160 ft of the rolling chocks on both sides of the vessel was found to be missing, but was not replaced. The dented plates were not touened. but several rivets were renewed. ’ The bent frames were strengthened by means of angle bars. A strengtnening steel girder 100 ft in length by 2ft, was fastened in position running through the stokehold, bunkers and No. 3 hold. The whole of the machinery was opened out, the shafts disconnected and tried fet “fairness." The work was carried out under the personal supervision of Mr John Stevenson, Mr A, Morrison, Lloyds' surveyor at Bunedin. and Mr A. L. Morris, chief engineer of the vessel. The repairs had to be done to the satisfaction of Captain Hollingsworth, twenty-two days being allowed for the job, which Was completed in two lees than the contract time.
