A communication from the defence headquarters to the “Times” points out that one or two errors occurred in the officially supplied report of last week’s officers’ conference. The conference was described as being one of territorial officers, but it was really more than that. It was a conference of district staffs, who nre permanent officers and are concerned in the administration of the military districts, and of territorial brigadiers and a few senior territorial officers. As regards the provision of capos for cadets, the report omitted the important proviso that these capes are only provided by the department on pre-payment; they are not to be supplied free. As regards the competitive examination for officers, it must bo understood that this is a competitive examination of non-commissioned officers for commissions in the territoral force and senior cadets. It was stated that candidates may sit for a commission in any area. For “area” those interested must read “arm,” and in reference to this, candidates must state, with their application to be allowed to sit for this competitive examination, in what arm they am desirous of obtaining a commission.
