PICNICS

TE ARO HOUSE. A trip to Day’s Bay on Wednesday last ■was a jolly outing for the employees of T© Aro House. As customary the directors invited the staff to their annual picnic, which was enjoyably appreciated by everyone. The ferry boat Admiral was specially chartered to convey the merry picnic party to their destination. After a delightful trip tho company assembled to lunch, which was laid very tastefully in the pavilion, and much credit is due to Miss Cameron, of the Ferry Company, for her able management. Alter the usual toasts to the directors and manager, the company adjourned to the sports ground to particiX>ate in the various events and games, which lasted well into the afternoon. Everyone seemed to be in holiday mood, and many eager competitors entered for the various prizes. Much amusement was derived fz*om tho all-fours, cigarette, ami catching the morning train races and the nail-driving competition, which is always a special feature at a Te Aro House picnic. At 5.30 o’clock tea was served, at the close of which the -prizes were distributed to the following successful competitors: Nail driving competition (ladies), Miss Beaumount; nail driving competition (gents’), Mr Bernascom; cigarette race (lady and gent.), Mr Forrester and Miss Henderson; catching the morning train (lady and gent), Mr Frost and Miss Playne; ladies' race. Miss Taaffe; men’s race, Mr Goodman; Siamese race (ladies). Misses Clarke and McKay; Siamese race (gents.), Messrs Bcrnasooni and Paget; ail-fours (ladies), Miss Elliott; pick-a-back (ladies and gents), Mr Lawrence and Miss McKay. At the conclusion of the picnic a hearty vote of thahks was passed to the committee who carried out their duties in a highly satisfactory maimer. VEITCH AND ALLAN. The employees of Veitch and Allan were entertained by Mr and Mrs W. ;ln : their residence, Muritai, on Wednesday. The party left town by special steamer at 10.30, and were met at Bona Bay and conveyed to Muritai. After a sumptuous lunch, games and sports were indulged in 'till late in the afternoon. After the company had partaken of tea, the prizes were distributed by Mr W. Allan, who expressed pleasure at being among the staff out of the shop at least one day in tho year. Mr Phillips returned thanks on behalf of the staff for the thoroughly enjoyable day they had all spent. The following were the prize-winners: whistling race.
