WHEELS WITHIN WHEELS

The satellites of “Reform” appear to be busily exerting themselves in the endeavour to create a Labour party of their own. That is why we are told by a press message from Auckland, emanating from Tory sources, that a meeting of the “old” New Zealand Labour party was held on Tuesday evening, when it was decided to repudiate the United Labour party, and form a separate organisation with Mr Walsh as organiser. This sounds very well, but it means simply nothing, except that “Reform” is active in a new and unexpected direction. It is forming some of its camp followers into what it calls a Labour party. Now( Air Massey is understood to be keenly on the look-out for subject for merriment. Hero is something very funny ready made for him. The squatters’ organ, which generally leads the laugh, is quite gleeful. But “Reform” is building on a bubble foundation. Anyone who knows Auckland knows that there is no such thing as a so-called old New Zealand Labour party there. It is probable that this alleged meeting was held in a back room of the “Voice of Labour” office, which journal, as we pointed out the other day, is packed with the tat advertisements of strong “Reform” partisans. We question whether there were six individuals at the meeting, and we are certain that not one of them was a trades unionist. The mention of Walsh’s name as organiser gives the whole show away. Walsh, who was the first “Labour” person to congratulate Mr Massey on the victory of “Reform,” and probably the only one, is associated with the production or the “Voice of Labour.” do also is Negraski, or Negro, or Black, who published the infamous Ward pamphlet. It is enough. We congratulate the Hon. W. F. Massey and “Reform” on their precious “Labour” auxiliaries or allies. There is still work for them to do.
