MAGISTRATE’S COURT
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 26. (Before Mr W. G. Riddell, S.M.) ' BREAKING AND ENTERING. Francis Henry Gordon Guilford was accused of having, on January 12th, at Island Bay, broken and entered the dwelling of Francis Edward Shennon, and stolen £6 5s in money, and that on February 15th he broke into the house of William Talbut, Wellington South, and stole the sum of £5 15s 6d, and eight penny stamps, the property of Rose Bryant and others. Accused pleaded guilty. Fingerprint evidence was produced against Him in the hrst case. Detective Lewis stated that accused had confessed to the second charge and had returned to him the sum of £4 3s 4d, a portion of the money stolen from Taflmt’s house. This money was taxon from the lining of accused’s coat. Accused, who said he was sorry, was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence on both charges. ALLEGED EMBEZZLEMENT. James Moore was arraigned on a charge of fraudulently omitting, on October 18th last, to account for the sum of £2 10s to the “New Zealand Times” Company, of which ho was a servant. It is alleged that the £2 16s was part of a sum oh £7 3s 4d received from the Dresden Pianoforte and Manufacturing Company by Moore, on terms requiring him to hand it to the “Times” Company. Mr T. M. Wilford appeared for accused, who was remanded until Wednesday next. Bail was allowed in the sum of £SO. Mr Wilford said the bail would bo forthcoming. FORSOOK THE NAVY. Sydney Thomas Plume was charged with deserting from U-M.S. Torch at Wellington on December 11th last. ' Sub-inspector Sheehan stated that Plume went to the Lambton quay police station on Tuesday and said he had deserted from the mm-o’-wai-. His Worship ordered that accused be held in custody at the Wellington gaol until snob time as the naval authorities could be communicated with. ROGUE AND VAGABOND. Susannah Ackerman, convicted of being a rogue and a vagabond, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment. DRUNKENNESS. Annie Gerry, who was charged with drunkenness, was ordered to pay £1 18s expenses incurred in curative treatment. Default was fixed at four days' imprisonment.
