FIRE ON THE MATATUA
INSURANCE ON CARGO. Press Association. * AUCKLAND. February 28. In -connection with the steamer Ma* tatua, which was reported to be on fire at Timaru yesterday, the hemp cargo shipped at Auckland is covered by insurances at. the offices of the Alliance Insurance Company and the South British Insurance Company. Tho Alliance Company has the hemp insured to the value of . about £4OOO. The quantity of dopra , aboard was insured in the islands, so that the figures are not available locally. CARGO BEING DISCHARGEDTIMARU. February 26. * Tho discharging of fire and water, damaged flax from the Matatna wai proceeding to-day. From sixty U seventy more or . less fire-damaged hales were got out; some were_but .ittle charred, and others soaked. Work was hampered by tangled flax through broken bands.
