DELIVERY OF GOODS
PORT SHIPMENTS. At the Wellington Harbour Board meeting last night Mr J. C. Cobbe said he wished to mention a difficulty which had arisen at the Wellington wharves during the past season—that of not being able to get goods out of some of the sheds. Goods consigned to people up country had been delayed sometimes as long as three weeks from the time that a ship came in. He saw a Customs agent who told him the difficulty was in “H” shed. The chairman; If you give me particulars of the shipment I will have the matter inquired into. Mr Cohen: Do I understand there’s not been any time during the past season that it has not been possible for goods to be delayed a fortnight? The chairman: If is hardly possible. If it has been so, the storage payment will show the particular shipment. Mr C. W. Jones: Wo have frequent complaints about goods not being sent forward by the shipping company, but it generally happens there are no instructions regarding them, and we have had to wait for instructions. I am sure there’s nothing like the delay spoken of. The chairman: The shipments might be kept hack through awaiting the bills of lading, or through-waiting for a vessel to take the goods np the coast. The Arawa recently brought 45,000 packages, and one man telegraphed, “I have two packages by the Arawa, where are they ?” (Laughter.) The case complained of by Mr Cobbe will be inquired into when particulars
