WANGANUI CUP MEETING

TO-MOEROW’S PROSPECTS. Special to the "Times.” WANGANUI, February 25. The rain experienced during the last few days was just what was wanted to make the course almost perfect on Thursday, and when tho Wanganui Jockey Club’s Cup meeting opens the trades should be first-class, provided the weather, which is fine, remains so. Indications all point to the gathering being a record success from every point of view. The town is already well filled with visitors. The racing promises to be of a very high-class character, and the fields will all he fairly large and of good class. Most of the Cup horses are already here, and this year’s contest should be worthy the best traditions of tho race. Labour Day has oome into favour since her arrival, as she looks much fitter than when she raced at the Egmont meeting. Some doubt her ability to stay, but her performances point to her as being likely to see out the full journey all right, and some of the best judges reckon she will beat all except Bronze. Mira arrived today from the south, and he appears remarkably well after his trip. Bronze is a warm favourite, and is not likely to be deposed from that position. Her condition leaves nothing to bo desired, and she has been galloping in a free and resolute manner. The shrewd ones are all expecting her to prove that she is back to her very best form. Masterpiece looks well enough, but his track work does not point to him as a likely winner, though this might he proved to he all wrong, and many think it will. Domino is bowling along in great style, and is pretty sure to start second favourite. Ho looks to bo better than ever. Cheddar has many supporters, but is not so much fancied now os he was a week ago. Master Laddo and Lady Menschikoff are not yet to hand, but are expected to-morrow. Tiresome’s chance is not very highly esteemed by local touts, hut Moutoa Girl is given a good outside chance. She hit out well over a mile and a quarter this morning. Ventura and Autumnus are tho favourites for tho Plying Handicap, but Crown Pearl has been coupled with Bronze for a fair amount. Jason shaped very attractively in a six furlong spin this morning, and his chance in the Jackson Stakes is treated highly. Postillion and Nukuatu, two of F. Tilley’s string, are evidently in great heart, and galloped very pleasingly this morning. Phroso and Denise Ormo are in splendid fettle, and the former is given a big chance in the Flying Handicap, while Denise Orme should run well at the meeting.
