MEETING AT SHANNON
TOAVN BOARD PROPOSAL QUASHED. From Our Own Correspondent. A meeting was held in the Druids’ Hall on Monday night for the purpose of discussing the advisableness of forming a town board or borough council in Shannon. There was a good attendance. . Mr Stansell (chairman) laid his views before those present, in which he strongly urged them to go for a borough council. Considerable discussion ensued, but no finality was arrived at. All present were unanimous that ’the township wanted drainage, light, and water, but were adverse to getting it through the medium of a self-governing body, proforcing to raise a loan through, the Horowhenua County Council. Mr O’Connor said that to get some finality on the subject he would, suggest that a motion be. put to the meettin whether they wanted a borough council, or not. Mr Logan moved, “That this township form a borough council." This was seconded by Mr O’Connor. As an amendment, Mr Gunning moved, “That in the opinion of this meeting the time is premature for the forming of a self-governing body in Shannon,” This was seconded by Mr Carter, and being put to the meeting was carried. After a vote of thanks had been passed to Air Stansell, the meeting terminated.
