TUe stall of the local hospital has been very busy for the past six months, but at present the number of patients is diminishing. Mi's U. A. W. MonoJdOn is seriously ill, being in a private hospital in Wellington. very beneficial, rain, especially welcome to farmers, fell on Friday and Saturday, while on Sunday afternoon a thunderstorm broke over the district. Yesterday, however, the rain only fell at intervals, the; total fall only registering 16 points. On Friday over an inch ot rain fell (1.015 in), while on Saturday 11 points fell. Mr Byron Brown left _ to-day on a business visit to the King Country, expecting to be away several days. Mrs hmest Brown, of Waikanae, contemplates leaving far Sydney, for health reasons, next month. Saturday morning's rain did not deter several bowlers from attending the local green during the afternoon. Some interesting games were played, the most exciting, perhaps, being that in which W. H., Simcox beat one of the leading players, viz., Allen Satherley. The former, with a handicap of 7, won by 10 points, 23 —13. W. Hartell and F. Beaumont had an exciting game, the former winning on the last head by 1 point, 22—21. Thomson and Olliver were in good form, and secured a_win from R. Booth and D. Noble, 27—26. On Wednesday next several interesting games will be played, and the public attendance should be large. At a genera] meeting of the Otaki Maori Racing Club on Saturday it was decided to give no less than £2OOO at the coming meeting, the value of the Cup to be £4OO, while the big money on the second day will be £250. At present the course and appointments are receiving much attention from the caretaker. Dr Mason, of Wellington, and at one time resident hert\ oaid a visit to Otaki at the week-es. jeing the guest of Dr ana ~rs Hum waite. Dr Mason left for d'anganui this morning, where he will spend a holiday.
