WANGANUI NOTES

(By Eileen.) Mr Smith (stationmaster) and, Mrs Smith are spending a holiday in Anckland. _ Mrs Montgomery has returned to Wanganui from her trip to Europe. Miss Anderson (Kaitoke), who went to England with Mrs Montgomery, has also returned. ~ ~ .. Mr and Mrs Austin (Auckland) are visiting relatives in AVangnui. Miss Casey (Marybank) left this week on a holiday to Eltham and New Plymouth. Mr and Mrs Paynter (Hastings) are on a motoring tour, and are at present the

guests of Mr and Mrs G. Couli, St. John’s Hill. Mrs Lundius has returned from her visit to friends in Wellington. On Tuesday evening a party of friends paid a surprise visit to Mrs Dykes (Marybank) and gave a kitchen evening to Mies Dykes, who is to be married shortly to Mr Frank Allen, of Upper AVanganui. Music (vocal and instrumental) and cards made up an enjoyable time, and quite a number of very useful presents were received, supper being served in the large diningroom. Tho evening was a perfect one, and there were about fortyone present, among whom were Mrs Dykes (sen.). Misses Dykes (2), Colonel and Mrs Hughes, Mr and Mrs C. W. Poynter, Mr and Mrs E. Poynter, Air and Airs Snowden Taylor, Mr and Airs P. Dykes, Air and the Misses Alarchant (2), Misses Casey (2). Miss Campbell, Miss Minnie, Miss AValker. Aliss Barnes, Misses Nash (2). Miss- Hughes, and Miss McDonald, and Messrs H. Dykes, Towgood, H. Nash, J. H. Woolverton, L. Andrews and A. Dnimmond. Mrs Munro (Mangaweka) has been spending a short holiday with her daughter, Mrs Paton, at Carlton. Mrs C. E. Alaokay and Aliss Anderson were among the visitors to Jerusalem to meet tho Governor and Lady Liverpool during the week. Mr and Airs Davies, who have been spending some time in London, nav* returned to Wanganui. An enjoyable garden party took place at AVestmere on Thursday last, Mrs Donald jdndly lending her pretty grounds for the occasion. The day was a perfect one. The garden party was in aid of church funds. It was rather unfortunate that rain set in on Friday for the Marton schools’ picnic, which took place at Castleeliff.
