OUTBREAKS OF FIRE

DUNEDIN, January 15.

A six-roomed wooden house in the Kaikorai Valley, owned and occupied by John Dickinson, fitter, was burnt to tho ground early this morning, presumably through a small fire being left in the range. The insurances are: On the house £3OO, and on tho furniture and effects £3OO, both in tho Victoria Office.

BLENHEIM, January 15.

A ten-roomed wooden building occuoied by Frederick Batchelor as a boardinghouse was totally destroyed by lira last evening. Mrs Batchelor was the only one at home at the time. She was out in the yard at the rear, and heard a rumbling sound. Looking round she saw tho kitchen in flames. A strong wind was blowing, and the flames rapidly spread. There was no chance of saving anything. A number of the boarders lost practically everything. Mr Batchelor is also a. heavy loser. The insurances on the furniture and effects were £240 in the Guardian Office. The building, owned by the Horne Estate was insured for £4OO in the Victoria .Office and £2OO in the Alliance,
