It was his intention to get aboard a boat as ship's carpenter. 'lino first clue as to his whereabouts was obtained from his calling at a gumdigger’s hut at Hukorenui. After leaving Kawa. Kawa he lit a fire in a brick kiln, hastily decamping when he found ho waa observed by three young men, who communicated with the police. The prisoner was overtaken dear the seaboaird. He submitted without resdstance, and will bo brought to Wihangarei today, and be charged to-morrow with burglary, theft of tools, and breaking gaol. A peculiar coincidence which led to tho police being in the vicinity was that an immigrant of precisely the same description was being traced, but he was able to satisfy the police who went to arrest him at Motatau. Huston had followed tho main road from Hikurangi to Opua, dodging into the side scrub to avoid detection by passers-by. He travelled nearly forty miles before he was recaptured.
