LOSS OF THE PAPANUI
CLAIM FOR COST OF FORWARD.

A writ has been, issued against the Australian Shipping Company, of Melbourne, churning £9093 in respect of 364 passengers by the steamer i’apanui, which was wrecked on September Ilth, 1911, while bound from England to Australia.
The passengers were landed at fit. Helena Island, and the Crown agents for the colonies have undertaken these proceedings to recover the oost of forwarding the passengers to their destinations, expenses of maintaining them until forwarded, and ail necessary oast of bedding and provisions. The case is- the first of the kind heard in Victoria. The writ asks foe • trial by * judge without a Jury.
