A NEW HOTEL

IMPROVEMENTS AT PICTON,

An imposing three-story brick hotel has just been completed in Picton, containing fifty-three rooms, and will be opened to the public in, a few days. This building, which has been erected to the order of the late Mr T. G. Macarthy, and is now held by the Public Trustee as executor for the estate, occupies the site of the old Terminus Hotel, and will retain the old name. Besides the bar and the adjoining bar parlors and lounge, there are • about fifty rooms, all of which, owing to the prominence of the site and their arrangement in planning, have • a fine view either of the sound or the surrounding country. > The ground floor of the hotel contains the bar, two bar parlors, lounge, dining-room, commercial room, bil-liard-room, and the office, which is prominently situated to command both entrances. All these rooms are spacious and bright and open off wide halls. The upper stories are divided into double and siflgle bedrooms, and each floor is provided with a large drawing-room and ample bathroom and lavatory accommodation. The whole of the interior walls and ceilings are plastered and finished off with Keen’s cement, and all the halls and principal rooms have dados and ornamental cornices.

Complete electrio bell and acetylene gas-lighting installations have been provided, the gas being supplied from the council’s works, and the comfort of the public has been considered by the inclusion of all the up-to-date conveniences of a modem city hotel. Messrs A. D. Kennedy and Co., of Wellington, as vendors, have secured a long lease' of the hotel, and they are now having it elaborately furnished throughout. When opened, this hotel should soon command a reputation among the residents of Marlborough and tho travelling public as being one of the best-appointed in the Dominion.
