The Petone Rowing Club opened the season on Saturday. Mr R- Mothes, patron of the club, said the club had only been in existence a few years, but its strength, numerically and financially, had increased each year. The assets today totalled JB6OO, and indebtedness only jBISO. In two years assets bad increased by JMOO. It had been decided to encourage sculling this season to a greater extent than in the past, and special prises were to be allotted to encourage the boys. The coxswains, Masters Alex Wylie, John Wild, and Percy Watt, were presented with medals for successfully steering winning crews at last year s regatta.
