POSITION OF CRETE
NOT THREATENED BY BRITISH DESIRES. LONDON, October 19. Official circles give an absolute denial to the remark credited by a correspondent of the Paris “Temps” fo Sir Fairfax Cartwright, British Ambassador at Vienna, that “we want Crete.” It is added that from the standpoint of Britain it is a matter that must be considered by he signatories to the Berlin Treaty, BRITISH FLEET IN SUDA BAY. BERLIN, October 18. The “Vissicho Zeitung” declares that the presence of a British fleet in Suda Bay signifies that though Crete may now be regarded as belonging to Greece, it is Britain’s distinct interest to see that Suda Bay falls into no other hands than Britain’s. FRENCH WARSHIPS GO EAST. TOULON, October 18. Five warships are proceeding to Syria to protect French subjects. TELEGRAPH NOTICES
Berne advises that the route vlt Fao (at the mouth of the Euphrates and the terminus of the submarine telegraph to India) is interrupted between Baghdad and Bassorah. The Turkish Administration notifies that the lines bordering on the Servian frontier are interrupted.
