TYPHOID EPIDEMIC

CAUSES ALARM IN CANADIAN CAPITAL. OTTAWA, August 1. A typhoid outbreak which began a fortnight ago is assuming alarming proportions. There have been fifty new cases daily, and eighty-six since .yesterday. The aggregate is 525, with seven deaths. ' Tho hospitals are full. An emergency hospital opened three days ago is filling rapidly. Tho citizens- want the city to pay, expenses of obtaining nurses, who are /scarce. Tho civic authorities are pouring hydro-chloride into Ottawa river. The Government holds that until pure water is provided people should not be induced to come to Ottawa. \
