AMAZON SCANDAL
INQUIRIES BY ANGLO-AMERI-CAN OFFICIALS. (Received August 2, 9 .65 p.m.) LONDON, August 2. In the House of Commons yesterday Sir Edward Grey, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, announced that a United States Consul would start from the nearest post on Monday for the Putumayo region, in Amazonia, to inquire into the reported atrocities on Indians engaged in tho rubber industry. A British Consul will accompany the American official, to collect information regarding the actual situation.
