Mirska, who was responsible for the bringing off of a big surprise when she won tho Oaks at Epsom last mouth, was bred by tho late Mr Douglas Baird, and was sold as a foal with her dam Musa to the French sportsman, M. Chcri Holbroun, for 4008gns. In tho Oaks Mirska was ridden by tho French jockey, J. Childs. Though owned in France, Mirska was trained In England for all her engagements of the current season. The Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club made a S refit of £1227 16s 2d on last season’s racig, and this, too, in the face of having a permit less than in the preceding year, and in having to pay £2C66 19s in the shape of Government tax. Wimmera' amply Justified tho confidence, for ho jumped off in front and leu throughout, winning easily by four lengths in 4rain Siseo. To-day Wimmera is engaged in the Australian Hurdle Race with 10.7, so that Mr B. J. Watt has some reason to view the situation at Caulfield in an optimistic vein.

The ex-New Zealander Mbtoa was started on two occasions at the V.R.O. Grand National meeting. hut failed to run prominently. Ohsono, Advantage, Golden Cairn, Masy Seaton and Annopolis. also from New Zealand, competed without success.
