PEBSS ASSOCIATION. SAWMILL HAND DROPS DEAD. WESTPORT, August 2. At Karamea to-day a man named Hopkirk, a recent arrival, dropped down dead while at work at a sawmill. Death was due to heart disease. DIES UNDER ANAESTHETIC. ROTORDA, August 2. A young Maori woman living at Pekaha, near Cape Runaway, 45 miles from the nearest doctor, was ill for three months, and a week ago came to Rotorua for treatment. She was found to bo suffering from peritonitis, and an operation was deemed necessary as the only chance of her recovery, but deceased succumbed under the anaesthetic.

DROWNED IN THE DULLER. . WESTPORT, August 2. The inquest into the death. ol Lionel Dorney, a fireman on the Taviuni, who was drowned in the Buller River on July Bth, . was concluded to-day, and a verdict was re. turned that deceased was accidentally drowned while intoxicated. The coroner commented strongly on the practice of supplying liquor to drunken sailors.
