The Union Company's chartered steamer Myra Fell is to sail from Newcastle within a dav or two for Auckland. The C'orinna is due hack at AYellington on Sunday Irom New Plymouth, and will leave ..ere at 6 p.m. on Monday for New Plymouth. The vessel will return, again dn AYcdnesday, on which day she will sail for Timarn, Dunedin, and Oamaru. The Mapourika arrived at Greymouth at 9 a.m. yesterday Irom AYo hngtqn via ports, and sailed on the return trip at 10 o’clock last night. She is due here early to-morow evening. The Mangapapa is due at Wellington next Monday morning from Karamca via AVctl,porl. It is probable that the vessel will go on the slip for cleaning and painting. The Monowai is now definitely fixed to remain in the AVcllington-Lyttelton service until next Monday evening. She will arrive hero on Tuesday morning, and v,. 1 sail on the same evening for Auckland via ports. The Mokoia will then enter tht A\ r elLngton-Lyticlton service on Tuesday. The .lavua will leave Dunedin on the 9th instant for Auckland via ports. Tho Blenheim, which was aground inside the Wairau bar, was refloated on yesterday morning's tide. Minor repairs will bo ejected at Blenheim, from which port tho vessel is due at AYellington early next week.

Tho local office of the Union Company advise, as agents for tho Orient Lino, that as hundreds have already booked for Home by tho Orient steamers for the February to May passenger season, intending passengers should make -early application for berths.

The llemuera is now fixed to leave Wellington on September 17th for London via ports in place of the Euahinc, which will leave Wellington on November 14th tor London via ports. Tho Moana is to complete her overhaul in time to resume running , Irom Dunedin on August 14th, when she will sail for Lyttelton, AA'ellington and Sydney. On arrival of the Moana at Sydney on August 29th, the Maitai will take her running. AYhen the Manuka arrives at Sydney on August 20th from San Francisco, sno will re-enter the intercolonial service.

Hie Eotoiti wi-1 probably be re-launched from the AYellington patent slip this afternoon. Tho Kahn and Janie Seddon are to go up on the slip on Monday, and be followed by the Hula and Mangapapa. Owing to tho AVairau bar being unnuvigable. the AYellington-Blenheim steamer service has been practically suspended. The Opawa has been running instead to Picton, hut owing to the inadequacy ol the cargohandling appliances of that port the vessel has been withdrawn, and all hands were paid off at AYo lington yesterday. The AVairau is unable to cross out over the AVairau bar, so she is laid up at Blenheim.

At 1 p.m. to-day a galvanometer signal for rating chronometers will be sent Irom the Observatory to tho Public Telegraph Olhce, and to tho Dominion Museum. Tue needle will move at 1 p.m. exactly of Now Zealand standard mean time, when a chronometer set to Greenwich mean time should show 13hr 30min. Any diiiercncc will be tho error of the chronometer on Greenwich moan time. At 9 p.m. correct time will also be signalled from the Ob servatory by means of electric lights. A green light will be switched on at about 8.45 p.m., a red one at about 8.55 p.m., and a white one at about 8.59 p.m., and all lights will be switched off at 9 p.m. exactly of New Zealand standard mean time. The preparatory switching on of the lights must be considered as cnly approximately correct, and must not be used for rating chronometers.
