BOROUGH VALUATIONS

VARIOUS RECOMMENDATIONS. Several Important suggestions in regard to borough valuations were pnt forward at the Municipal Conference yesterday. Without rtiscnasion, the conference adopted the following remit, sent forward from lower Hutt, Karori and Palmerston North; That the law be amended to provide that the, local valuation rolls should be adjusted to December 31st, and pnt In the hands of the local authorities concerned by April Ist following, in order to admit of the rates being levied, and demanded, at a much earlier date than is now possible. It was agreed, on the moticn of a Now Brighton delegate: That the Valuation Department make arrangements for valuations of boroughs, to be made at regular intervals of not mote than three years. Other remits adopted on the subject of revaluation were; That the Valuation of Land Act, 1908, be amended in the direc. tion of making it the duty of the ValuerGeneral, on the application of tbe local authority, to revalue ail lands in cilice or boroughs cut up and roadcd for residential sites during the interval which elapses between revaluations: the revaluation to be on the same basis as similar property already valued on the local valuation roll.

That section 36 of the Valuation of Land Act, 1908, be, amended to enable a local authority, by notice in the prescribed form, and on payment of the prescribed fee, to require the Valuer-General to make a new valuation of any property or properties appearing on the district valuation roll, without being, put to tbe expense of having the whole district revalued. That no owner of property shall be allowed a revaluation of his property without the consent of the local authority, except when a now revaluation of the whole district is made. That no revaluation of property made after the sitting of the Assessment Court; either under section 31 or section’ 36 of the Valuation of Lands Act, 1908. whether the valuation is increased or decreased, shall apply to local rating.
