THE TIMBER INDUSTRY SHORTAGE OF STEAMERS. £20,000 WORTH WAITING FOR VESSELS. PBESa ASSOCIATION. QREYMOUTH, July 29. Saw millers and. timber exporters are suffering owing to the shortage of steamers to carry timber to the outside markets. It is estimated that sawn timber to the value of nearly twenty thousand pounds is lying awaiting shipment. The shortage of tonnage is attributed to the extraordinary demand for coal throughout the Dominion taxing the shipping companies to their utmost capacity. Some relief is _expected next week, when two steamers carrying nearly a million superficial feet each will load for outside markets, but it is reckoned that it will be a month or so before the pressure is relieved. j
