MONDAY. JULY 29. (Before Mr W 7 G. Biddell, S.M.) FELT IT KmmNLY. Claude Paterson, who on Saturday led Constable Smart a chase from Lambton. quay along Wellington terrace to Bolton street, en, route disencumbering himse.f of a roll of flannelette which he stole from the shop of Messrs Green and Davis, also his overcoat, and at the end of the pursuit grievously damaged Constable bmart's trousers, valued at 275, appeared before his Worship. He pleaded guilty to stealing the flannelette, to resisting the constable, and tearing the trousers and was on the first charge ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. On the second he was fined in default seven days, and was ordered to make good the damage done to the trousers. Paterson declared that he felt his position, which was duo to drink, very keenly and "thanked his Worship very much for his leniency.' ALLEGED FALSE PRETENCES. Alexander Garrick Harold was remanded until to-morrow on a charge of attempting to obtain from divers persons the sum of XI by false pretences. Mr , L j.\ O’Leary appeared for accused. REMANDED FOR SENTENCE. John Nash, a young man, pleaded cuilty to deserting from the Remuera on Apnl sth. He stated that he left the ship because he was better able to sup--port his mother in this country. His Worship remanded him for sentence until to-day. INSOBRIETY AND PROHIBITION ORDERS. For insobriety, Charles Skidmore was fined £2, in default fourteen days. A prohibtion order was issued against him. Thomas ; Newton Withers for a similar offence was fined 20s, in default thiee and discharged for drunkenness, Frank Adair was fined •£•!, in default one month for the fifth breach of his prohibition orderJohn Joseph Kelhhor was convicted for the third breach of his order and was fined a similar amount. . A prohibition order was issued against John Arthur Potter on the ground of excessive drinking. MAINTENANCE. William Moncrieff was ordered to pay t £l per week towards the maintenance of his wife, Mary Morcrieff.
