TECHNICAL SCHOOL

SUGGESTED SHEET? SHEARING CLASS. At lust night's meeting of the Wellington Technical Education Board a letter a-ae received from Mr W. T. Hambly in regard to , classes in sheep shearing. Judging by the numerous complaints of pirall sheepmen throughout Nelson and Marlborough, as well ns of the squatters throughout New Zealand, said Air Hambly, there was a decided lack of competent men, and consequent trouble and loss to the sheepmen. He suggested the .starting of a doss in shearing, etc., in order to give a practical training to the jions of town people who intended going on the land. Air J. G. AV. Aitken moved that the director (Air W. S. La Trobe) be empowered to further communicate with Mr Hambly on the matter. Air J. P. Luke thought it was just as much for the school, to develop pastoral education as secondary education. Boys talked of going on the land, but seemed to be thoroughly deficient of knowledge on the matter. This was a suggestion that might well be investigated. Mr Field: You cannot have the class without tlie sheep on hand. He thought this sort of work would be bettor suited to agricultural colleges. Mr Luke said he was struck by the lack of facilities for lads to learn what was required in this direction. If they bad a class, they could get* the lads, with an idea for farming, and take them’ out in groups to the farming places and let them see the conditions. They should get hold of the boy when he was leaving school without wasting time. Air Field thought the idea a good one.

Air La Trobe, in answer to a question, said the attendance at the wool classes had been very good.

Air AV. Allen: Could it not be made tho nucleus for this class? The motion was carried.
