FISH AND JAM FOR BABY

LONDON, June 12. At the Camberwell inquest yesterday on the two-year-old daughter of a general dealer, named Holmes, of Pardon road, Camberwell, it was stated that a thir-teen-year-old brother, acting on his mother’s instructions, gave the baby "a middling-sized plateful of fried fish and potatoes.” An hour later the lad gave the little girl a "decent-sized slice of bread and jam," of which she ate all except the crust. Dr IV. Michael said that death was due to an overleaded stomach, distended with a substance like fish and potatoes, pressing upon a rather weak heart. A verdict was returned accordingly.
