OPERA HOUSE. “BEN HUE.” The performance of “Ben Hur” at the Opera House last night was given in the presence of his Excellency the Governor and Lady Islington and party from Government House. SHORTT'S CONTINUOUS PICTURES, Shortt’s continous pictures received excellent patronage yesterday afternoon and eveniug, wiien the customary bi-weekly change of programme, took place. The ‘ star" picture is "Arson at Sea." The shipowner conspires with the captain to burn the ship. Then follows tho impressive spectacle of-the ship burning at sea. The captain escapes from the doomed vessel, leaving the crew to their fate. He reaches the snore to claim his reward for the evis deed. The captain is seized with remorse and his ill-gotten gains prove his undoing. Tho Kalem drama "The Secret of the Miser’s Cave” is a sensational love romance of ranch life. A Japanese industrial film, "Gaumont Graphic,” and "Excursion to Kabylia” axe interesting subjects. The comic section is represented by "Jim ak Magistrate,” and " Marriage of Billy.” The pictures will be screened again to-day and to-night. THE ADELPHI. To-night tho Adclnhi Masked Mate Quartette are announced to again appear. The number chosen this week is that old favorite, “Oh, Who Will O’er the Downs So Free.” The pictures being screened this week are of the usual high standard. "Charlie Colms and the Knave of Spades.” although a'long film (running to over ZSOO feet), does not allow interest to flag. There are forty-four scenes, and each appears to bo more exciting than its predecessor. Other subjects of interests arc "Wild Birds at Home” (a nature -study) beautifully coloured. "A Western Kimono" (a cow Doy story full of comedy), and the "Bathe Gazette." A special prize matinee is advertised to take place on Saturday afternoon at 2.30 o’clock.

BORNEO GARDINER CONCERT. A great deal of interest is being shown in this concert to be given in the Town Hall next Monday night as a complimcni to Mr Borneo Gardiner. Mr Gardiner is one of the most popular performers in Wellington. and it is recognised that for the laudable work done in the past some appreciation should be shown the young New Zealander prior to his departure for London to join the professional stage. His many friends, therefore, have organised this entertainment, and have secured the services of many leading vocalists and performers. The Professional Orchestra, too, have given their assistance, and the items to he contributed to the programme by this fine orchestra will certainly be worth listening to. in addition to' the solos of many of our finest vocalists and humorous and dramatic reciters. The committee have indeed well catered for all classes.

RICKARDS TIVOLI COMPANY.

The box plans will open at the Dresden to-morrow for the season of vaudeville which will commence at the Opera. House next Wednesday night. The Rickards Tivoli Company comprises sixteen members, all said to he expert artists in their particular spheres. Chief among them is Binaldo. whose performances on the violin are described as remarkable in every way. Jfr W. H. Fox. a monologue entertainer, Sianist, and mimic; Miss Monie Mine, anclng souhrette; Walker and Sturm racquet spinners, and the Tossing Testros are also conspicuous members of the company.
