COUNTRY TEAMS BEATEN NORTHERNERS’ CLOSE GAME WITH CANTERBURY. PEESS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, July 25. The first representative football match of the season in Christchurch, Canterbury v. the combined North inland country unions, was played at Lancaster Park this afternoon under very miserable weather conditions. Tho playing area was very sodden. As the result of tho extremely bud weather experienced, and with this state of affairs prevailing, high class football was out of tho question. The South Island country representatives played, their second luatcu of the tour at Stratford to-day, when Taranaki defeated ‘ them by 31 points to 3.
