TYPOGRAPHICAL UNION

JUBILEE CELEBRATION,

The jubilee of the Wellington Typo* graphical Union will bo celebrated by a smoke concert to-morrow evening at tho Hotel Windsor. The Prime Minister (Hon. W. F. Massey) and several Ministers of the Crown, local members of Parliament, and tho Mayor (Mr D. McLaren) nave promised to bo present, circumstances permitting. In an artistically printed and excellently compiled souvenir of tho occasion, the union says:—"The Wellington Typographical Union stands to-day a monument to‘the wisdom and the foresight of the pioneer craftsmen who founded it, and into the harvest of whoso labors we have entered. Many of those pioneers have paid the final debt Nature exacts from us all, but some of .them are with us to-day, able to rejoice iu the completion of tho first half-century of tho union’s chequered, but intensely useful, life. The jubilee wo celebrate, and the present strong and satisfactory condition of the union to-day constitute the most telling testimony to the keen interest tho founders of the union and their successors took in the craft, and their devotion to the cause of labor generally. We feel confident that the celebration of our jubilee will arouse fresh interest in tho minds of members as to the history of tho last fifty years, and stimulate them to fresh zeal in promoting the welfare of the craft and the betterment of labor conditions generally.”
