An anonymous donor has offered to the town of Brighton .£40,000 for philanthropic works, and has invited suggestions for its disposal. A suffragette has been, punished for throwing a bag of flour at the Premier at Chester.
Mr Henry Sheppard Hart Cavendish, traveller and explorer, has been divorced by his second wife. Cavendish was pro minent in the '“planchette" case in 1906, and was at one time in Australia. The New South Wales bowlers defeated Elgin by 95 to 81. ■ c SYDNEY. July 23.
The Farmers' Conference has resolved to favour the institution of a Chair of Dairying at the University. Of 8142 crimes reported to the New South Wales police in 1911, no arrests were made in 2981 cases. Including acquittals, those unpunished totalled 4615.
