As an outcome of the disturbances caused by' suffragettes in Dublin on Thursday evening, during the visit of. the Prime Minister, Mr Asquith, four women—Gladys Evans, Mary Leigh (who threw a hatchet at Mr Asquith, but missed, striking Mr J. E. .Red. mond instead and inflicting a slight injury to his ear), Lizzie Baker, and Mary Capper (the latter two English/ women) —appeared in court yesterday. They were charged with conspiring to cause grievous bodily harm and with doing malicious damage.' The evidence showed that but for the action of the men' at the Theatre Royal the building would have been burnt, with many fatalities. While Mr Asquith was speiting in .the Theatre Royal some suffragettes! attempted to parade the street, and re mfct with cries of “Hatchet! u unpowder 1” The women retorted with: “What about men shooting landlords?” - The crowd was So exasperated; that the women were compelled to find, refuge in the post office, the windows of which were smashed recently by some { of them, and hut for the intervention! of the police they would have beer thrown into the River Liffey.
