AUSTRALIANS WIN

AGAINST M.C.C. MINNETT PLAYS A GOOD INNINGS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright LONDON, May 22. The Australians placed another win to their credit to-day, when they secured victory over M.C.C. by five wickets. When stumps wore drawn yesterday, M.C.C. had.five wickets down for 244 Mead (61) and Perrin (8) being the not-out men. Continuing this morning, in fine weather, and with the wicket hard, the 2000 spectators saw Kclleway with his first ball dispose of Mead, taking his leg stump. Mead’s score included a C and five 4’s. Burns, who succeeded Mead, saw the score raised to 272, when he hit across a long hop from Kclleway. Six runs later Webster dismissed Littlejohn by a smart catch off Kclleway. Thompson stayed with Perrin until the third century was registered, when he was brilliantly caught by Hazlitt, off Emory, low down at short-leg. The batsman did not relish the umpire’s decision. Brown,, the last man, added 10, but lost his wicket by endeavouring to turn one from Emery to leg. Perrin, who was undefeated, played soundly during his eighty-five minutes at the wickets.

The innings had lasted 275 minutes. The Australian bowlers sent down many no-balls, several of which were scored from. Two of them yielded 1 extras.

The Australians opened their scco->’ innings badly, Gregory being snapped at second slip before he had made a run. Showers stopped tho play for a few minutes, and on resuming Macartney played a hall from Thompson on to his wicket. Ho had made his 20 by fine cricket, his cutting being brilliantly executed. Mayne, after scoring 5, was dismissed by a splendid big left-handed catch.

Bardsley was out through missing a leg hit. His innings had been marked by good off-driving. Fifty appeared after sixty minutes’ play, and the century in ninety-five minutes. Minnett’s 64, though he showed fine leghitting and driving powers, was marred by two chances —when he had only made 2 he was missed by Brown at the wickets, and again at 2 Thompson dropped him off a ball from Douglas. Minnett’o score included ten 4’s. Kelleway and Matthews, by steady play, knocked up the necessary runs, leaving the Australians with a five-wicket win. Following are the scores: MARYLEBONE 0.0.
