NINE MONTHS’ GAOL

FOR WOMAN SUFFRAGE CONSPIRATORS. LONDON, May 22. At the Old Bailey, the trial of Mrs Pankhurst and Mr and Mrs Peth:; Lawrence on charges of conspiracy *in connection with the suffragette raids, has concluded. The accused were found guilty and sentenced, each to nine months’ imprisonment in the second division. (Received May 21, 11 p.m.) LONDON, May 23. The jury strongly recommended the accused to mercy. Mr Justice Coleride, in sentencing them, said that if he had observed any sign of -contrition or disavowal of acts committed he would have been disposed to accord them first division treatment. Mr Pethick Lawrence and Mrs Pankhurst were ordered to pay the costs of the prosecution. After the passing of sentence women in court leapt to their feet crying “Shame!” and a procession passed the dock shaking hands with the prisoners, who went to the cells amid cries of “Keep the Flag Flying!”
