Mr. Griffith, Minister f<jr Works, giving evidence before the Increased Rents Commission, said the high rents werechiefly due to the increase in the price of labour and materials. The present prosperity was not ephemeral nor extravagant. The products of Australia had received world-wide recognition; the Commonwealth was merely beginning to realise her larger share in the general prosperity. There .might be a modification -of prosperity, but never anything like that following the bursting of the land boom.
