AUSTRALIAN TEAM PROJECT. A special meeting of the Wellington Cricket Association was called for last night to consider whether the association should give its countenance to a scheme, emanating from the New Zealand Council, to send a' team to Australia rc-xt season. The question had been considered by the, committee of the association and referred to a general meeting. By 8.30 p.m. two delegates were wanted to form a quorum. It was therefore resolved that tho meeting be adjourned for a fortnight. DISTRICT SCHEME.

When it was announced that the meeting would be adjourned Mr D. McKenzie said he would give notice to move at tho next meeting that the district scheme be abolished and the club 1 , system reverted to. He subsequently! gave notice of motion to this effect. • It was docuied that the question could he considered at the meeting, but no resolution adopted would, under tho circumstances, bo effective.

PLUNKET SHIELD RULES,

A mooting of the management committee of tho Cricket Association, held last night, was attended, by Messrs M. l\ Luckic (chairman,). A. T. Bate, M. J, Orombie. E. M. Bceohey, W. Gibbes, D, McKenzie, W. A. Par-ton, W. Dow©, o. Dempsey, and E. B. Vance (hon, seoreTho Marlborough Association wrote agreeing to March 18th and 19th as tho dates lor their match against a B re-, piescntative team at Wellington. . In reply to a letter from tho Y.M.C.A. it was decided to advis© that a senior team could not bo entered by that association, , It was resolved to approach tn© Manawatu Association with, a view tj arranging a match, to bo played at Palmerston at Blaster. The secretary stated that there would be on approximate surplus of X 96 to J;loii from tho Auckland match. , The chairman read a draft letter to tho Now Zealand Council outlining proposed alterations in the rules of competition for the Plunkefc Shield. The system suggested is similar to that obtaining in Australia in Sheffield shield matches. Each of the associations entitled at present to compete for the Plunket Shield should play in each season no fewer than one out .and ouo homo match before being entitled to qualify; tho shield to be awarded' at tho end of the season to the team showing the greatest number of points—three points being scored for an outright win. two *for a win on the first innings, and one for a tie or a drawthree points being deducted for an outright loss and two for a loss on the first innings. In tho event of two teams showing an equal number of points the association suggested that the shield should go to the team that had ’scored the biggest proportion of runs per wicket. The council should, at the end of each season. fix and approve the matches which each association should take part in during the forthcoming, season, the associations having tho option to undertake additional matches, with tho consent of the council. ’ The letter was approved by the committee.

Third-class championship matches originally set down for next Saturday ■will be played as arranged, and those set down for tho 2nd inst will be played on the 16th. Fixture® and grounds are as follow:—March 9th: College Av. North, on college ground; College Bv. Karori, college ground; St. Mark’s v. Petono, Hutt; Templars v. Victoria College, Kelburne; Catholic v. Central. Newtown: St. David’s a bye. March IGth: Central v. Karori, Karori; St. David’s v. North, Hutt; St. Mark’s v. Victoria College, Kelbume; College A v. College B, college; Templars v. Petone, college; Catholic a bye.
