POLLING-DAY TROUBLES
RAILWAY MEN'S GRIEVANCE. PRESS ASSOCIATION. GREYMOUTTI, December 9. The head men in the maintenance department workshops arid on the wharves,, and others not engaged in running trains on polling day, received a circular telling them to cease work ut noon on polling day. They made preparations accordingly but at 11.40 a verbal message was sent to tho foreman of a wharf repairing gang on Thursday, saying that work was to continue till 1 o'clock. Tho men declined, as they had worked from 6 o clock to suit tho tide. Next morning thirteen, including three permanents, were suspended, and are still idle.
