READ FIRST TIME IN LORDS FUND TO COMPENSATE DOCTORS. By Tolezraph.—Press Association —Copyright LONDON, December T. Tho Insurance Bill was read a first time in the House of Lords. Messrs R. A. Cooper and J, Gretton, Unionist AX.P.’s for Walsall and Rutlandshire respectively, took a referendum of their constituents on the Insurance Bill. In both cases the Bill was rejected. Tho doctors have subscribed £150,000 to .compensate doctors for losses through adhering to the policy of the Medical Association in connection with tho Insurance Bill. TWO PETITIONS TO THE LORDS. (Received December 8, 9.40 p.m.) LONDON, December 8. The friendly societies have petitioned the House of Lords to amend the Insurance Bill so as to enable them to pay sickness benefit from tho first day of illness instead of from tho fourth. Tho British Constitution Association urges tho Lords to reject tho Bill or submit it to a poll of th© people.
