A SHRINKING WORLD
This good old earth on which we live grows smaller day by day. Till now . there isn't any place so very far away % The lands which were so wide apart that months would intervene , Aro now so near, a little while is all that lies between. To talk with far-off China used to take a half a year, But now we simply, sliout "Hello!" and whisper in her ear; And islands lost in distant seas when , history commenced Are chatting with each other now, since space has been condensed.. With dashing trains and aeroplanes and steamships, swift and all. We have compressed this goodly globo into a little ball. Tho land is but a step across, tho sea is but a pond; We have close laced our little earth- and look toward worlds beyond. It' may bo that the subtle minds that compass, year by year, Tho wondrous things that serve to draw all distant places near, AVill in the golden days to come so fashion a balloon Or aeroplane that men will make a visit to tho moon.
