PIT-BROW LASSES

FROM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT. LONDON, October 6. At the Miners’ Federation Conference, held at Southport this week, the principal subject of discussion was the employment of women at the pit bank. It may be remembered that sqme weeks ago there were heated discussions in the House of Commons on the subject, and a deputation of pit brow women delegates came down to London themselves to plead that their trade should not be taken away from them. It was decided at the conference that the authorities do not aim at the immediate abolition of female labour, and the clause merely provides that there should not be any new female labour. It does not interfere witb the women and girls already employed. •
